Goodwood wash up (literally)

More about Goodwood - Words: Tim Guy, Photos: Peter Bolser

Finally our weather angel deserted us; sheeting rain, gale force winds and inside out umbrellas will be the predominant memory of most of those who attended our Goodwood track day. Dave Livingstone, who seems a lot wiser that the rest of us, baled out on Sunday with highly suspect claims of a dodgy alternator ;)

Apart from our missing chairman and one other we had a full attendance of 39 brave souls who all managed 3 sessions on a waterlogged track. Congratulations to you all for your excellent safe driving. Only one minor slippy moment that I heard of, with everyone managing to keep off the grass.

I have a wickedly humorous picture in my mind of one of the marshals; stood out, drenched at the finish line being nearly blown away by the red flag he was clutching to end the session during a particularly vicious squall. Full credit to them for being willing to staying out at their posts on track but eventually at 2:15 the call was made to end the day. Many of us left across the track and via the emergency gate, being apprehensive of the foot or so of standing water in the paddock access tunnel. The minor roads on the way out were not much better either; hope everyone got home safely.

Apologies to all for not being able to keep to our time schedule as we varied the plan to make the best of the circumstances. I do hope it has not put off any of our newer members, honestly, it’s not normally like this. Unfortunately with no paddock announcement system at Goodwood, communications are not easy. Top marks to our officials for the day; Barry, aka drowned rat McCann and Tim -wet socks-Woolcott, for running round between the paddock shelters keeping us all up to date with what was going on.
